After a not so stellar 2007,  the Astros picked up Jose Valverde from the Diamondbacks  and Miguel Tejada from the Orioles who helped to anchor the infield defense which committed only 11 errors. Lance Berkman also enjoyed a 50-at bat span where he batted .620 and tied the league lead with 46 doubles.

Finishing at 86-75 and in third place, the Astros failed to make the playoffs  and were looking forward to the 2009 season to begin but again the Astros have gotten off to a rough start and are sitting in last place in the NL Central with an 11-15 record.
